In fact,
Carol Nelson Shepherd served as president of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice (formerly Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association).
According to the Pennsylvania Association for Justice website:
“The mission of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice is to promote a fair and effective justice system – and to support attorneys as they work to ensure that any person who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of others can obtain justice in Pennsylvania’s courtrooms, even when taking on the most powerful interests.
In 1968, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association (PaTLA) was created to uphold and defend the Pennsylvania legal system, including trial by jury. To accomplish this mission, the Association assists trial attorneys throughout the state in a number of ways, including but not limited to: providing a forum where legal information can be shared, organizing educational seminars on all aspects of trial practice, publishing legal texts on a range of issues, and most importantly, lobbying for the integrity of a robust civil justice system in our state, all with the aim of helping trial attorneys better represent their wronged clients. Unlike other states, working together, the Association has resisted measures that would drastically close courthouse doors to Pennsylvanians who rely on courtrooms as their last resort to retain justice. The Association also strives to foster public awareness of the role of the trial attorney in the administration of justice and to protect every citizen’s 7th Amendment right to trial by jury. In 2007, the name of the Association was officially changed to Pennsylvania Association for Justice (PaAJ). PaAJ and its members have always worked to achieve and maintain justice for Pennsylvania’s patients and consumers. The change made this mission part of our name.”
