Biography
Peter M. Newman is a trial lawyer representing plaintiffs in catastrophic personal injury litigation including products liability, medical malpractice, premises liability and other complex personal injury and wrongful death actions. Mr. Newman handles claims against insurance companies for clients who are victims of bad faith in the adjustment or defense of claims, and for clients who made claims for disability benefits that their insurers unreasonably denied. Mr. Newman has helped clients and their families obtain multi-million dollar settlements and verdicts against physicians and hospitals for failure to diagnose life-threatening conditions and for a variety of medical errors. Over the course of 18 years as a trial lawyer, he has also represented clients injured by defects in the design and manufacture of industrial machinery such as printing presses, forklifts and cranes, and of household products such as clothes dryers. He has developed considerable experience investigating the cause and origin of fires and swimming pool accidents and is actively involved in the prosecution of civil rights actions arising from the excessive use of police force and from high-speed police pursuits that result in injury to innocent motorists and pedestrians.
Mr. Newman earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988 and his law degree, cum laude, from Tulane University in 1991.
He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Stephen J. McEwen, Jr., President Judge Emeritus of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, in 1991 and 1992.
Prior to joining Feldman Shepherd, Mr. Newman was an associate at Kline & Specter, P.C., and a shareholder at Lavin, Coleman, O’Neil, Ricci, Finarelli & Gray, where he represented automotive, industrial and consumer product manufacturers in products liability actions.
Mr. Newman is a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Associations and the Philadelphia Bar Association.
In 2010, Mr. Newman was named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Star.
