Dangerous Magnetix Toy Causes Serious Injury to Two-Year-Old Boy in Pennsylvania
December 5, 2007

PHILADELPHIA (December 2007) – A toy popular among children has been implicated in causing serious injury and even death to dozens of American youngsters.  The Magnetix magnetic building set, imported from China by a Canadian company, Mega Brands, Inc., and sold widely in the United States, consists of small plastic building pieces.  The plastic pieces contain small but powerful magnets, which are known to easily fall out of the plastic receptacles.  The tiny magnets have been swallowed by young children, which then attract each other within the abdomen, causing intestinal perforation, blockage and other serious injuries and complications.  Approximately 30 serious injuries, and at least one death, have been reported to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Magnetix Magnetic Building Set Injures Boy - Feldman Shepherd Files Law Suit

The Feldman Shepherd law firm has become involved in litigation on behalf of the families of children injured by this dangerous and defective product.  Recently, the firm asserted a claim on behalf of a two year old child from Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, who sustained serious and permanent intestinal damage, necessitating multiple hospital admissions, as a direct result of swallowing two of the tiny magnets, which had become detached from the Magnetix plastic building pieces.  The child remains ill and under the care of a team of pediatric specialists.

More than 4 million of the defective and unsafe Magnetix building sets have been sold in the United States.  Parents with small children who appear to have suffered an abdominal injury in a household which owns the Magnetix toys, should call Alan M. Feldman or Daniel J. Mann at the Feldman Shepherd law firm at 215-567-8300.
