$4.2 Million Jury Verdict for Woman Struck and Injured While Walking Near Home in Bucks County

In a case tried to verdict by Roberta D. Pichini, a jury awarded $4.2 million to a Bucks County senior citizen who suffered orthopedic injuries when struck while walking near her home in Bucks County. A salesman for Thompson Toyota in Doylestown made a left turn while exiting the dealership and struck the plaintiff, who was walking across the driveway at the exit. As a result of her injuries, the plaintiff could no longer live the independent and vital life she had enjoyed. The defendants argued that, even before the incident, the plaintiff had pre-existing conditions, including legal blindness and orthopedic problems, which would have shortened the period in which she could remain self-sufficient. Nonetheless, the jury’s award recognized the devastating impact on the plaintiff of the loss of her independence.
