$6.1 Million Settlement in Gas Explosion and Fire Case

John Manlove was an 80-year-old resident of the Village Green Apartments in Hatboro, Pennsylvania. As a result of a rupture of a pipe leading to a gas-powered laundry machine during a flood at the apartment complex, a fire developed that killed Mr. Manlove and five other residents of the apartment building, and injured six others.

Lawsuits were filed against the landlord of the apartment building, the owner of the gas-powered laundry machine, the utility company for failing to install an automatic shut-off device for the gas line, and other defendants.

During the litigation, 71 depositions were taken and 9 expert reports on liability were commissioned. The Manlove Estate was represented by attorneys Alan M. Feldman and Daniel J. Mann. The case brought by Mr. Manlove’s family was settled on the day trial was to commence for $6.1 million.
